The market for new Dot Matrix printers is still quite large. I think the entire Airline industry runs on them. They do have their advantages.

Only way you can print on multi-layer transfer paper. Heck of a lot of auto parts stores still use them for their invoices.

Dot matrix printers actually aren’t bad for their jobs, when it comes to printing forms. The issues I have with them is that users get frustrated by ‘obsolete’ technology and don’t handle them with the care they should...which inevitably causes failures.
All those failures cascaded down to me to work on or replace, as the only person with any knowledge of how they worked. Our company had 350 or so of them, nearly all of which passed through my hands at some point.
I hated the experience surrounding the printers, and am glad they’re all now gone from this company.
